Registered Dental Hygienist

Under the direction of the site dentist the Dental Hygienist will clean teeth and examine oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. The position will also educate patients on oral hygiene, takes and develops x-rays, and applies fluoride or sealants. JOB RELATIONSHIPS REPORTS TO: Clinical supervision provided by the site dentist and administrative supervision provided by the Health Services Administrator (HSA) SUPERVISES: None DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES · Administers prophylactic treatment by the scaling and polishing of teeth. · Documents area of existing restorations and notable areas of possible decay and disease for dentist's review. When appropriate, may call in dentist for immediate consultation. · Takes x-rays to determine extent of any decay and disease. · Administers fluoride treatment as needed. · Updates medical history of patient, highlighting significant information for dentist's review. · Instructs patients in oral hygiene technique, answering patient questions and providing other educational information relevant to oral hygiene. · Practices universal precautions and other sterilization and infection control procedures and maintains equipment. · Provides associated administrative support, including maintaining patient documentation, patient communication and other record-keeping. Upon receiving the necessary training and/or instruction, performs other related duties as required or assigned. PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Graduate from a school that is approved by the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience providing treatment in a dental office.
