Role Overview

The Dental Assistant role supports clinicians in delivering the Perfect Patient Experience and helps create a Patient for Life. Duties include preparing patients for oral examinations and treatment, assisting clinicians during procedures, completing radiographs and intra-oral photos as directed, preparing tray setups, maintaining operatory supplies, and keeping patients’ mouths dry during treatment. Assistants also sterilize and disinfect instruments and operatories per state infection control guidelines, record clinician notes and charting in the digital patient chart, present treatment records and consents to the clinician, and ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer guidelines. When assigned to a specialty area—Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatrics—assistants primarily support clinicians in that specialty and may require additional training. The role requires working effectively with front office and clinical team members, communicating to help schedules run smoothly, escorting patients, and instructing patients on postoperative and general oral health care as directed by the clinician.
