Role Overview
Provide preventive dental care including scaling, root planing, prophylaxis, plaque/tartar/stain removal, fluoride treatments, sealants, and antimicrobial applications when appropriate. Perform dental assessments, oral cancer and disease screenings, take and develop dental X-rays while following radiation safety protocols, assist in periodontal diagnosis and treatment planning with the dentist, and maintain accurate clinical records and charting.
Follow infection control and sterilization procedures for instruments and equipment, participate in case discussions and coordinated patient care with the dental team, and educate patients on brushing, flossing, nutrition, and home oral health maintenance. Hold a degree from an accredited dental hygiene program, a current state dental hygiene license, and certification in dental radiography.
